Iain has been a Consultant Plastic Surgeon at the Canniesburn Plastic Surgery Unit, Glasgow Royal Infirmary since 1996 and he also has carries out plastic surgery at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children, Yorkhill, Glasgow,
He graduated from Dundee in 1981. After further training in Stirling, Dundee and Glasgow he took up his current post in 1996. He is regularly involved in training and teaching and has a specialist interest in laser treatment of cutaneous disorders and the treatment of vascular malformations, and heads the ‘Laser Unit’ at Canniesburn, one of the busiest in the country. He has had several articles published in peer reviewed journals.
Dr Iain Mackay’s Plastic Surgery Services
The application of laser technology to various fields of plastic surgery has been investigated and developed over the past 12 years in Glasgow. This research is continuing and the particular areas which have been studied are treatment of tattoos, portwine stains, vessel anastomosis, continuing with research into the treatment of benign pigmented lesions and photodynamic therapy for malignancy. Iain is in charge of the Laser Unit at Canniesburn and continues to develop the service
Iain dedicates a significant amount of his time to the development of plastic surgery services in his role as the plastic surgery Training Programme Director for Scotland. He is also a Member of Plastic’s Surgical Advisory Committee to Joint Committee for Surgical Training and is the Director of Canniesburn’s Microsurgical Development programme.
Iain has experience in all forms of cosmetic surgery and carries out these procedures at Nuffield Health Glasgow hospital.
